The northernmost island of Japan, Hokkaido, is famous for its incredible dairy. Butter, milk, cream, cheese and, you guessed it, ice cream are all token products of the chilly prefecture. Hokkaido is home to open, hilly land making it the only place in Japan that can accommodate the relatively expansive pasture sizes required for dairy cows. If you happen to be lucky enough to get to visit Hokkaido in the summer, their soft-serve ice cream is considered a regional delicacy. Made with fresh milk and often spruced up with local fruit flavoring, Hokkaido soft cream is everything soft-serve can and should be. It is rich, sweet and so, so fluffy.
For those of us who can’t get to Hokkaido to enjoy their ice cream on-site, Orange confectionary has a darling solution-- Hokkaido style soft-cream packaged up and shipped all the way from its source. Orange Hokkaido soft cream has a unique package design to protect the tall, conical shape of the swirled ice cream inside. Upon removing it from it’s specialized wrapper, the ice cream looks as if it was made right here, and upon taking a bite, it tastes that way, too. The ice cream has the signature creamy sweetness, and softness of Hokkaido soft-serve perfectly replicated and preserved-- simply magical. We currently have Orange Hokkaido soft cream in three delicious flavors: gentle vanilla, bright strawberry, and exotic uji-matcha-vanilla swirl. Beat the heat this summer, and be sure to pick up a cone of Hokkaido Soft ice cream on your next visit to Maido for authentic Japanese food, groceries and essentials!
