Washugyu: U.S. Raised Wagyu Beef

Japanese raised beef, called wagyu, has gained a famous reputation the world over. Wagyu, often called “kobe beef” in the United States, is known for its incredibly tender texture, and unique fat marbling that is the result of a genetic variance in Japanese cattle. In accordance with our mission of bringing the flavors of Japan here to you, Maido now carries a selection of wagyu-style beef cuts in the frozen foods section! Our beef, called Washugyu, is from a trademarked hybrid cattle made by crossbreeding Japanese Taijima Wagyu with American Black Angus cows, produced by Super Prime Beef Inc. in California and distributed by Japan Premium Beef in New York City. Super Prime Beef raises their cows under the supervision of a Japanese farmer recruited specifically to bring their signature care and feeding techniques here, to the U.S. Washugyu cows are brought up on an all-natural diet without the use of growth hormones. As a result, 99% of Washugyu is graded USDA Prime-- the top grade for beef quality that the USDA offers. We currently have chuck roll slices and kiriotoshi cuts, both of which are thinly sliced and ideal for sukiyaki, yakiniku, or adding to your favorite stews or stir-fry dishes. Our Washugyu features the delicious taste of wagyu, but with a convenience, accessibility, and affordability that you won’t want to miss! Be sure to grab some on your next visit to Maido for authentic Japanese food, groceries, and other essentials!
