Nishiki Rice's 40th Anniversary

Hello everybody. Do you eat rice regularly? As you surely know, rice is a staple food in Japan. Maido sells many brands of rice, but the one we carry the most of is the Nishiki brand.

Nishiki rice is California-grown and is medium-grain. For those of you who are not familiar with this brand, it is a private brand of a company called JFC, which is a large Japanese food vendor in North America (U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico).

They are the main vendor that supports Maido, with shipments arriving twice a week. A lot of items sold at Maido are distributed by them. They handle products of both JFC and non-JFC brands, so even if the package does not say JFC, you probably have purchased the products they handle, if you have shopped at Maido.

JFC's Nishiki rice is celebrating its 40th anniversary, so we are joining in the celebration at our store. Thus week, we will introduce the rice we currently carry including Nishiki brands, health benefits of rice, how to rinse rice for better flavor. Let's get started!

Nishiki, the signature rice brand of JFC International Inc, is the premium medium grain rice grown with the rich soil and crystal clear water of California. Nishiki, Quick Cooking Brown Rice

Nishiki Quick Cooking Brown Rice is a totally new type of quick cooking rice product. It is not precooked or processed like other brands of quick or instant rice. This new milling technology allows one to cook this healthy rice in a much shorter time than regular brown rice but still enjoy the wonderful nutty flavor and delicate texture of regular brown rice.

Nishiki, Haiga Rice

Nishiki-Medium Grain Rice with rice germ (Haiga) is produced by eliminating the layer of the bran from brown rice, while keeping its rice germ. Rice germ is not the germ you may think about, rather it’s the part that will eventually develop into a new plant (to germinate). This part of the plant contains most of the nutrients, such as high protein content, vitamins (B1 and B6), and fiber. Think of it as the hybrid of white rice and brown rice. It is easier to digest than brown rice, and as flavorful as white rice.

Matsuri, White Rice

California grown Matsuri Golden Koshihikari is closest to Japan's prized Koshihikari rice harvested from the famous southern Uonuma region of Niigata prefecture in Japan. Enjoy the creamy, delicately sweet flavor and silky-moist texture.

Kagayaki, White Rice

Kagayaki rice is a short-grain California Koshikari rice that uses a new milling process that allows the grains to polish each other without the use of water or brushes. Experience the exceptional quality that stands out in the world of gourmet cooking.

Ayanishiki, White Rice

Ayanishiki is one of the highest quality short grain koshihikari rice grown in Japan with an aromatic flavor and beautiful texture unmatched by any other rice. This koshihikari rice is grown on fertile soil rich in nutrients, which is a very important factor that gives this rice its texture and flavor. This rice is used and highly sought after by sushi experts to complement their fresh fish.
