If you love the comfort of a warm bowl of soup and the satisfying crunch of a deep-fried snack, you might already be familiar with the unique appeal of the Shirakiku Clam Chowder Croquette. This Japanese-style korokke makes New England clam chowder portable, and we offer it as part of our curated selection of premium frozen treats.

At its core, this is a Japanese cream croquette crafted with a rich milk and soymilk flavor. The savory filling features Japanese littleneck clams, onions, and potatoes folded into a thick, velvety white sauce made from skim milk powder and soy powder. The whole thing is coated in a delicate, flaky panko crust that shatters when you bite into it.

The magic is all in the contrast. When fried correctly, the exterior is incredibly crisp and golden, while the center is molten and savory. While traditional potato korokke are often paired with a drizzle of tangy sauce, Japanese people don't usually use sauce for cream croquettes. Because the filling is already perfectly seasoned to highlight that smooth milk and soymilk flavor, the taste is meant to stand entirely on its own. Skipping the sauce ensures you don’t mask the delicate flavor of the clams.

While you can bake them, deep-frying or air-frying is the gold standard for that authentic Japanese deli texture. For the best results, deep fry them frozen at 340 F - 360 F for about 7 minutes. If you prefer the air fryer, spray them generously with oil and cook at 375 F for about 10 - 12 minutes, flipping halfway through. If you let them sit for two minutes after cooking, the carry-over heat helps the creamy center set just enough so you don’t burn your tongue.

Whether you’re looking for a unique appetizer or a quick weeknight treat, these are a great option to have on hand. Now that you know we carry them, you can grab them the next time you come in!
