Eitaro Sohonpo has been a name synonymous with tradition and quality since its founding in 1818. With over 200 years of history, this establishment is a cornerstone of Japanese sweets and confections. At Maido, we've got two kinds of their beloved traditional sweets: anmitsu and mitsumame. These desserts are not just sweet treats; they are a celebration of exquisite flavors and textures meticulously crafted for your enjoyment.
Anmitsu: It's a traditional Japanese dessert, often enjoyed during the warmer months, featuring kanten agar-agar jelly cubes topped with anko sweet red bean paste and a variety of fruits. A sweet syrup is drizzled over the top, and it is sometimes served with a scoop of ice cream.
Mitsumame: It's also a traditional Japanese dessert, especially popular in the summer, consisting of kanten agar-agar jelly cubes, often served with boiled azuki red beans, and a variety of fruits. It's typically enjoyed with a sweet syrup which is poured over before eating.
Anmitsu with Kuromitsu Brown Sugar Syrup

One standout version is the anmitsu with kuromitsu brown sugar syrup. Here, the natural sweetness of anko sweet red bean paste elegantly complements kuromitsu brown sugar syrup - a syrup crafted using methods from the Edo period (1603-1868). The cooking technique for the Hokkaido azuki red beans, paired with Okinawa's deep-flavored brown sugar, results in a combination that beautifully captures the essence of Japanese confectionery.
Anmitsu with Matchamitsu Green Tea Syrup

Another remarkable offering is the anmitsu with matchamitsu green tea syrup. This version celebrates the authentic taste of matcha skillfully blended with sugar. Crafted in honor of Eitaro's bicentennial anniversary, it marries historical candy-making techniques with the subtle bitterness of matcha green tea. The result is a harmonious experience that enhances the traditional anmitsu base.
Mitsumame with Kuromitsu Brown Sugar Syrup

Eitaro's unique mitsumame showcases kuromitsu brown sugar syrup made from premium brown sugar sourced from Okinawa. Additionally, a distinctive kanten agar-agar jelly cubes help maintain the quality and texture of this freshly made sweet. The natural richness of this brown sugar, derived from sugarcane cultivated on Iriomotejima and Kohama Island, enhances the overall experience, highlighting the unique flavors of this beautiful region.

Each product is kept fresh in a can! It comes with a packet of anko sweet red bean paste (anmitsu only) and a packet of syrup in addition.
By indulging in Eitaro's offerings, you not only savor delightful flavors but also partake in a legacy nurtured over two centuries. It’s an experience that promises to connect you with the heart of Japanese culture. When you are craving something sweet, consider treating yourself to the delightful options from Eitaro Sohonpo!
