Hi-chew, a small rectangular chunk of candy from Japan. It’s kind of like a cross between a starburst and gum, just slightly firmer when you start chewing. It comes in a multitude of flavors like Apple, Mango, Banana, Kiwi, Watermelon, and so on. A few new bags of Hi-Chew have come to Maido! There’s "Reduced Sugar" with thirty percent less sugar than the original. Then there is "Infrusions" meaning each piece of candy has been infused with real concentrated apple puree. Last but not least, from the makers of ‘Hi-Chew’ is a totally new hard candy called “Fi-Being”, in Passion fruit and Elderberry flavors! My mouth is watering just thinking about how fruity each piece will taste! It was one of the first things I tried when I was younger and Maido was in Narberth. Did you know? The first “Hi-chew” were actually called “Chewlets” created in 1956. They would later make a comeback in 1975 becoming known worldwide as the ‘Hi-chew’ they are today. Make sure to try these new tasty flavors next time you come to Maido for all your Japanese grocery essentials!
Do you have allergies? Hi-Chew may contain soybeans, milk, or yogurt depending on the flavor and product. It DOES NOT contain peanuts and is SAFE for those with tree-nut allergies. Please review the ingredients and allergens carefully!
